We would like to acknowledge #cynergysuperhero Jimmy Scanlon!
Jimmy recently started his 23rd year with the Boston Fire Department. The last 4 with our Special Operations. His official title is Advanced Rescue Technician.
He has two sons, Gavan 18 and Gabriel 15. One’s a senior and the other a freshman in high school. I also have a few siblings in the area.
Jimmy’s message to the community:
There’s a certain irony to some of us telling people to stay home when our professions requires us to come into yours and get within 6 feet of you. I think most people are doing a good job of being mindful of their surroundings.
The biggest thing I’d add to what those fantastic nurses have shared is the mental and emotional component of the pandemic. We can wash away the virus but the anxiety and stress some people are feeling is very real. It’s not wrong to feel nervous or scared. It’s less wrong to talk to someone you trust. I think you’ll find more people in the same situation. This is new to all of us. I’ve trained for mass casualty scenarios. In those scenarios ERs don’t really get filled, people don’t really get quarantined and the psychological aid is only done in theory. Reach out to someone if you need to vent or to someone you know who’s having a hard time.
