Spotlight Athlete – Chris Fellows

Chris has been chosen as athlete of the month because he always shows up at the gym through injuries and bad days. You will always find him finishing his workout if he is last, or if he is first.  You will always see him cheering others on! He has never once walked in with a negative attitude and is always smart with his lifts and always trying to become his best self!

What do you do for work?

Customer Support Manager for a AI startup

What would you like us to know about you and your family?

I live in Whitman with my wife Kristin and our two dogs, Ben and Simba. Last month was actually our 5 year anniversary of buying/moving into our house. Kristin and I are huge travelers whether it be onto our next tropical location or our next Spartan race we are always on the move.

What is one thing that we may not know about you?

Prior to moving to MA, I was a PA/Board operator for Espn radio at the main HQ in Bristol.

How long have you been CrossFitting?

In September it will be 5 years

What time do you typically train?

5:15pm

What is your favorite lift and why?

Deadlift, with my messed up shoulders it’s the only one that I can always count on to go heavy on

What is your favorite WOD and why?

Not sure I have a favorite per se but I do like Fight Gone Bad because it’s not focused on one muscle group. The stress is spread out.

What are your current life goals?

I’m not really a believer in setting goals, they always seem like something marking an end rather than a checkpoint. I just keep my eyes on the horizon and see where my feet take me.

What is your most memorable time as a CrossFitter?

I would say the first time I completed a bar muscle up. I think I’m up to 4 at this point but that was a movement that infuriated me. I understood the physics of it, I got the timing, but I could not get my body to put it all together. When I completed that first one, I was so energized, I jumped up and wanted to get another(I didn’t) but I now had that as a tool in the tool belt.

How has CF impacted your life outside of the box?

I’ve never been someone to let their fears hold them back, unless that meant doing things with a group of strangers. Since starting Crossfit I started racing Spartan races by myself without any second thoughts. I even started dropping into other boxes while on trips, something I never thought I would do but the community at large made it so easy that it created a home away from home wherever I happen to be.

How would you best describe Cynergy to others?

Being in the night classes, I usually describe it like organized chaos in the best possible way. A bit like herding cats but once the bell rings for the workout, everyone is as focused as possible. Cynergy as a whole, is a community with members of varying personalities but there isn’t a one that won’t be there next to you to fight to the finish or cheer you on when you’re struggling to reach the finish line.
