TCL Personalized Nutrition Success Story: Ricciann Kingman Sheridan

Congratulations to Ricciann on an incredible 12 week transformation. I admit I was worried when she first came to me knowing what she was dealing with at home with 3 young boys, working various shifts as a nurse and finding time to work out. Her plate was very full. She put 110% into every day – reading her journal notes I often wondered how she was managing it – but her results speak volumes about her consistency and dedication! So proud of what you accomplished Ricciann!

Physical Transformation:

  • Weight lost: 12.8 pounds
  • Body fat lost: 6.6%
  • Muscle gained: 2.8%
  • Waist: 2.75 inches lost
  • Chest: 2.25 inches lost
  • Hips 1.75 inches lost

What was your expectation prior to starting the program?

I knew that this program could work, I would always see the posts of the transitions from other people doing it, I just was not sure that I could do this. Did I have enough willpower to do something like this? I had spoken to some of my friends that have done this and they made it seem really interesting, it definitely sparked my interest.

Did we meet your expectations?

Yes. I reached out to Dianne a while back, I had just had my 3rd baby boy at 30 weeks. I had spent 4 weeks prior to having him on bed rest. Dianne was so honest with me, she had said that this was going to take a lot of preparation and devotion and reach back out when life settled a bit, and honestly I had no time. I had 2 little boys at home and a baby boy in the hospital, I was having a hard enough time splitting my time among them, never mind then having to food prep.

When life settled down a bit and I was able to look in the mirror, I knew the time was now. I needed to make a change, so I reached back out. Dianne was great, as well as everyone else that helped support me during this process. The days that I felt were difficult and I was not doing my best, Dianne made me feel that I was doing such a great job.

What are some of the most powerful lessons you are walking away with?

The first lesson I learned was that I am stronger than I ever thought I was. I walked into this 12 weeks ago doubting myself, wondering if this was something I was strong enough to accomplish. And 12 weeks seemed so far away at that time. Every week I conquered was that much closer to my first 12 weeks being done. I finished this 12 weeks feeling better than I have ever felt and looking better now than I have ever looked in my life, including pre kids. I don’t think I have been this lean in my life.

The second lesson is FOOD is so important, GOOD food. Everyone that asks me what kind of diet I am on…I usually say, I’m not on a diet, I can eat whatever I want, but I try and make the best choices. I eat real food. I feel like all I do is eat all day. I’m not saying it is always easy to eat the good foods. There are days that I want to eat the entire bowl of M&M’s but I have learned self-control and I know that I will regret that decision the next day. I made it 12 weeks without one piece of candy! And my 12 weeks was during Halloween. And I have 3 kids, so imagine the amount of candy we had in our house.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

Doing it all. I was able to complete this first 12 weeks doing it all. I have 3 young children, age 4, 2 and 8 months. I am a nurse, I may not work full time, but I work 1-2 times a weeks, all while being a full time mom and wife. I was able to find the time to make my health a priority. There were days that it was hard, but I tried to make sure I had the right food choices available at all times. I was very lucky that my husband stepped up and decided to do this with me, and he is a great cook ;).

I finished this 12 weeks a much healthier woman than I was 12 weeks ago and I am very excited to see where the next 12 weeks take me. I love this program and I am beyond thrilled with the results.

TCL Personalized Nutrition Success Story: Patty McGaffigan

I’ve posted many success stories the past year but this one makes my heart smile. So proud of the transformation Patty (my sister) has made.  In the last 5 years Patty has picked herself up and completely changed her life. Her strength, determination and commitment to choosing a healthier life is an inspiration.  Mom and Dad would be proud! ~ Dianne Shanahan, TCL Coach

Physical Changes (24 weeks):

  • Lost 34.2 Pounds
  • Lost 5.4% body fat
  • Gained 1.6% muscle
  • Lost 11 years body age

What was your expectation prior to starting the program?

I had no doubts that the program would work. I had seen dramatic results from others who had committed to it. I knew that if I could similarly commit to changes in my life, it would work for me too.

Did we meet your expectations?

Yes. One of the questions on the initial survey asked me to rate myself on how ready I was to start the program. I gave myself an 8 out of ten, which I thought was pretty good. It was pointed out to me to really consider that number. I knew then that it was going to require a hundred percent buy in; I had to be ready to invest in myself one hundred percent. The tools were all there and would lead to healthy weight loss as long as I was ready to use them.

What are some of the most powerful lessons you are walking away with?

I learned two valuable lessons. The first is the importance of data tracking. Using the My Fitness Pal app to track my food intake was and is incredibly important. I faithfully enter every item, even the occasional king size Reese’s cups. Some days it looks ugly but it keeps me facing the reality of my choices. I also love tracking my steps.

The second lesson is that lifestyle changes have to include weekends and vacations too. I spent a lifetime of Sundays having food frenzies. I look back with shock at how much food I would consume just because it was Sunday. Making that shift alone was a big deal. I feel good now, every day of the week.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

I like that I enjoy running now. I can run five miles easily. Who’d have guessed I’d ever write that sentence?!!

TCL Personalized Nutrition Success Story: Gillian Riggs

Congratulations to Gillian Riggs on a very successful 12 weeks. One of Gillian’s biggest goals was to find relief from constant stomach problems. She was willing to try eliminating different foods from her diet and learned what foods work for her – and those that don’t!

On top of that, she made some incredible changes to her body composition! Looking good Gillian!

Physical Changes:

  • Lost 9.6 pounds
  • Lost 5.7% body fat
  • Gained 1.7% muscle
  • Lost 11 years body age

What was your expectation prior to starting the program?

I had a few goals when starting the program. I had just come back from visiting my in-laws in England when I started and I had gained some vacation weight which I wanted to lose. I also regularly get stomachaches after meals which I wanted to get control of.

Did we meet your expectations?

Yes. I definitely lost the weight I had put on. Through tracking my food and input from Dianne, I was able to identify which things were likely causing the stomachaches.

What are some of the most powerful lessons you are walking away with?

Tracking what you eat is not as challenging as it seems. This leads to more cognitive food choices and can help identify foods that are causing problems. It was especially helpful having to record how I felt every day. I was able to identify trends and figure out what foods were causing my problems. The last several weeks I didn’t have any stomach problems. This was especially apparent when I finished my 12 weeks; I had a celebratory meal of macaroni and cheese and it was a big mistake! My body had been telling me for years what I couldn’t handle but I wasn’t listening! Also, meal prepping makes life easier and it helps your wallet. I noticed that I was under my grocery budget while on this program.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

Pain free the last several weeks of the program!

Thank you for this program! I learned a lot about nutrition. Tracking was well worth the initial difficulties given what I learned about what food sensitivities I have.

TCL Personalized Nutrition Success Story: Laura Corkery

Congratulations to Laura Corkery for a very successful 12 weeks. Laura made every effort to stick to her numbers and make every day a good one. Even when going out to eat, she would check out the menus ahead of time, contact the restaurant to find out portion sizes or to ask for a special request. She was determined to get the most of her 12 weeks and she did!

Physical Changes

  • Lost 16 pounds
  • Lost 5.6% body fat
  • Gained 2.4% muscle
  • Lost 7 years body age
  • Reduced visceral fat by 2 points
  • Lost 3.75 inches – waist
  • Lost 3 inches – hips
  • Lost 2 inches – chest

Since last fall my weight had been creeping up.  I knew I had to reel it in, eat better, and work out.  Each post of someone finishing the TCL would amaze me, and I thought, “I wish I a) had the time, b) energy, c) will power to also do the program.  It was a vicious cycle, because I felt tired, lazy, and fat there were times I did not go to CF, imagine not working out because you felt “fat?!?” The final straw was packing for vacation, and my summer clothes would not fit. I was now ready, I would make the time, find the energy and find the will power.  I got weighed and measured 12 hours after I got home!

What have you learned about yourself throughout this process?

I was not sure what to expect, I did hope after 12 weeks I would have at least half the success as other members of the program, and I wanted my summer clothes to fit.  I thought it would be very hard, I heard about the logging, and the prep.  I also heard “trust the process”.  I also kept remembering what Cindy said about the TCL group “it is a safe place.”  So, with that in mind ,checking in with Dianne, and seeing that others had the same concerns and feelings as I did, I knew I could do this.

I liked that I could focus on macros and not calories, to me that was almost refreshing!

After my midpoint weigh in, I could not believe my numbers, I knew I lost pounds, and clothes fit better, but to see the actual numbers, well it motivated me even more!

I learned that I can accomplish something even though at first it seems impossible.  In a way, it is like a WOD.  There are times you think “no way I can do that”, and then you are driving home saying “WOW I did that!”

What goals have you achieved throughout the 12 weeks? Were there any surprises?

There are a few: The fact that I even did this, when once upon a time I thought I could not!  Saying “no, thank you” to family and friends when they are offering me more of something.

Not indulging in all the food that we have in the cubicle world. Also, I now have a scale, measuring spoons and measuring cups at my desk.

I achieved better health, fat loss, inches lost and weight lost.  I think I was expecting to be hungry all the time or that I would have to deny myself things I really love. In this program, I was not hungry, and I could have everything that I enjoy, all I had to do was measure it.

What goals will you continue to work on?

I will continue to be more mindful of portions.  Also, to continue to use MFP as a tool.  I will continue to review menus and call restaurants ahead to plan a meal.  I will continue to weigh myself each day too, that is important to see the up and down.

What was the most powerful or life changing lesson/action for you?

Prep is the key.  I learned that what you eat really makes a difference in how you feel, and what the scale shows.   The scale can be a brat, so I tried not to take it too hard, if things did not go my way.  It amazed me it could go up two pounds as easy as down two pounds.   If I did over indulge, I would get back on track the next day. The old me would have said “Oh well let’s start again next Monday.”

It was crazy to me that if I did not hit my numbers it would mostly be in the carb area. If you had asked me a few weeks ago, I would have said I was a Carb Queen.

Where is more learning needed?

OH there is always room for more learning.  Even though I KNOW what the scale says does not tell the full story, I still have times when I get hung up on it.  It will take a while to “unlearn” that.

TCL Personalized Nutrition Success Story: Rania Voulgari

Congratulations Rania on a very successful 12 weeks with TCL! Rania made many discoveries in the 12 weeks about how certain foods affected her. She was consistent with her food and found that eating the same things made her very hectic schedule more manageable. About half way through the program, she noticed her “muffin top” disappearing – and with almost 5 inches lost from her waist – that muffin top no longer exists. Great work Rania!

Physical Changes

  • Lost 13.8 pounds
  • Lost 5.3% bodyfat
  • Lost 4.8 inches waist
  • Lost 2.4 inches hips
  • Lost 1.4 inches chest

What was your expectation prior to starting the program?

I started the program because I wanted to see what I could do and what I should eat in order to feel better in my everyday life that would also improve my workouts. And yes the program absolutely works! All you have to do is put in the work! Sign up and follow the steps (macro numbers!).

First off and really important for me, I finally started sleeping more than 4-5 hours a day. My job is demanding and late nights every day don’t help. I found that eating better or I should say eating the “right” amounts… definitely “put me to sleep”! I lost many inches from my waist and feel much better in general. Clothes look way better too!

What are some of the most powerful lessons you are walking away with?

I never thought that cooking/preparing meals for 3-4 hours once week would be an enjoyment!!! I’m not or I should say I wasn’t fond of the kitchen but seeing the results keeps me motivated.  I learned to try new foods and discovered what works best for me!! Complicated recipes etc. … not my choice. Keep it simple and easy. When bored, play around with adding different foods, spices, sauces, etc. to get through!! And last but not least ….unless you do the work…nothing will happen. I always thought just working out and eating right was enough! There is science behind it and it makes sense to me now.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

Throughout the whole program, except 1-2 days, I hit my macro numbers! It is such a feeling of self-satisfaction knowing when I set my mind to something I can accomplish it. Being stubborn, determined and disciplined goes a long way! A great feeling of confidence!

Thank you so much for the support and the feedback. The Facebook community is a big help.
